DIY House Garden Arbor

Hi it’s Amy from Hertoolbelt back with another build project.  It’s time to get out in the yard and work in the garden.  Today’s project is for a DIY House Garden Arbor, wouldn’t this be so cute in the garden.  We found the inspiration for this project on the blog Orange Farmhouse, isn’t it so fun!

Project Inspiration

The pin associated with this photo suggests using pallets to recreate the house.  I personally don’t think the original photo uses pallets, but it is an option.

How to Build a DIY House Garden Arbor

Materials

  • 7 – 2″ x 4″ x 8′ boards
  • 6 – 1″ x 6″ x 8′ boards
  • 1 – 2″ x 6″ x 8′ board
  • 2 1/2″ deck screws (or weather resistant coating)
  • 1 5/8″ deck screws (or weather resistant coating)
    • Approximate wood cost – $52

Cut List

  • 6 – 2″ x 4″ x 54″ long (You can make these longer or shorter depending on the arbor height you want.)
  • 2 – 2″ x 4″ x 47 7/8″ long
  • 10 – 1 ” x 6″ x 47 7/8″ long
  • 6 – 2″ x 4″ x 34″ long with 45 deg cuts on both sides (see step 2)
  • 1 – 2″ x 6″ x 47 7/8″ long
  • 2 – 1″ x 6″ x 12 1/2″ with 45 deg cuts on both sides (see step 3)
  • 1 – 1″ x 6″ x 49 3/8″ long

Step 1

Using 2 1/2″ deck screws, attach 3 – 2″ x 4″ x 54″ boards to the 2″ x 4″ x 47 7/8″ board, 2 flush at the ends and 1 that is 21 3/4″ from the first.  On the 2″ x 4″ x 54″ boards, measure and mark down 9 1/2″, 23″ and 36 1/2″ down from the top.  Use 1 5/8″ deck screws to attach the 1″ x 6″ boards, keeping everything square.  Repeat for other side.This house shaped garden arbor is so cute, perfect for my yard. Step 2

On each of the 2″ x 4″ x 34″ boards, measure and mark 8″ and 19 1/2″ from the bottom.  Attach 1″ x 6″ x 47 7/8″ boards to the 2 x 4’s using 1 5/8″ deck screws.  Repeat for other roof.This house shaped garden arbor is so cute, perfect for my yard.  Free DIY plans on @remodelaholic

Attach a roof to a side using 2 1/2″ deck screws, you can either toe nail the screws in or use pocket holes.  Repeat for other side.

Step 3

Attach the two roof/sides together with a 2″ x 6″ x 47 7/8″ board in between.  Use 2 1/2″ deck screws to secure the roof pieces to the 2″ x 6″.  This house shaped garden arbor is so cute, perfect for my yard.  Free DIY plans on @remodelaholic

Cut 2 supports from 1″ x 6″ boards.

Use 1 5/8″ deck screws to secure the roof pieces with the support.  Add the top pieces and secure with 1 5/8″ deck screws.

Step 4

Stain or finish the House Garden Arbor however you wish.  You will want to finish the arbor with a water resistant sealer.
